mämia is constructed as a photographic narrative spatially and symbolically based in the city of Helsinki - Finland: it follows the path of a camera which goes from artist to artist, hands to hands and film by film. In spring 2020, outbreak of the pandemic - six artists were invited to take a self-portrait and to photograph an object they care about. Something they cherished during the long hours of lockdown. Thinking about what it could mean to reappropriate home.
We carried out the project with a spring 2021 open call where the self-portrait and object demand stayed at the very heart of our concern.
For this upcoming edition of mämia we are pleased to introduce the work of 15 more artists, all coming from different countries.
mämia is a curatorial demand initiated by Aurélia Casse, who collected each artist’s images and Albane Durand-Viel who designed the online publication.
All together, mämia bounds up 21 photographers.
